University of Kentucky Scholarship College of Agriculture Food and Environment

Although only one application is required for the Martin-Gatton College of Agriculture, Food and Environment scholarship, there are dozens of potential awards. Thanks to the generosity of donors and alumni, awards are based on criteria such as major, hometown, career goals, club involvement, and more.

The college scholarship application for current and transfer students is open. Read below for details and eligilbity.

Application Overview

To be eligible for the Martin-Gatton College of Agriculture, Food and Environment scholarship, current students or transfer students must: 

  • Have a cumulative 2.6 GPA as of Fall 2023
  • Hold a primary major in the Martin-Gatton College of Agriculture, Food and Environment 
  • Be enrolled as a full-time student during all semesters in which the scholarship(s) will apply (December 2024 graduates are eligible to apply)
  • Plan to attend the College Scholarship Luncheon (date TBD)
  • Complete the scholarship application by Monday, March 11, 2024.

Martin-Gatton College of Agriculture, Food and Environment scholarships are awarded for one academic year, in two equal amounts, for the fall and spring semesters. Students must re-apply for continuing student scholarships in the spring semester of each year.

The essay portion is extremely important. Applicants will be asked to answer the following two questions (each response should be 500 words or less:


Essay 1 - Required

The lessons we take from obstacles we encounter can be fundamental to later success. Recount a time when you faced a challenge, setback, or failure. How did it affect you, and what did you learn from the experience?

Essay 2 - Optional

Some students have a background, identity, interest, or talent that is so meaningful they believe their application would be incomplete without it. If this sounds like you, then please share your story.


To create the best possible response, students are encouraged to draft their answer prior to beginning the application and meet with the UK Writing Center to strengthen their essay. 

Transfer students may apply for our college scholarship after submitting their admissions application; they do not have to wait for official acceptance to the University.

If you are a transfer student who has not yet applied to the University, we encourage you to apply on a "Transfer Tuesday" where admissions application fees will be waived.
