The Bachelor of Science in Dietetics prepares individuals to be recognized leaders in the field of food and nutrition. Graduates of the Dietetics Program
function as entry-level professionals with opportunities for practice in:
-
Medical nutrition therapy

- Community dietetics
- Food systems management
- Business and entrepreneurship
- Nutrition/product research
- Nutrition counseling
Students choose one of the following options:
- Option A–Didactic Program in Dietetics (DPD) or
- Option B–Coordinated Program (CP) in Dietetics (includes the supervised practice).
Both options lead to the Bachelor of Science in Dietetics and fulfill the foundation knowledge and skills to meet requirements for graduation from this accredited program.
Accreditation
The DPD and CP in Dietetics and the Dietetic Internship at the University of Kentucky in the NFS Department are granted accreditation by the Commission
on Accreditation for Dietetics Education.
Becoming a Registered Dietitian requires you to:
- Complete a bachelor’s degree in Dietetics
- Complete a supervised practice; i.e., CP or Dietetic Internship
- Pass the registration exam administered by the Commission on Dietetic Registration
- Complete continuing professional educational requirements to maintain registration
